WhaleListen as a chordStage 1 begins with the red Apple chord. After roughly three practice days, a parent adds one chord at a time up to nine white-key chords: Apple, Chick, Whale, Penguin, Frog, Fox, Grapes, Flower and Bear.
Stage 2 adds solfege labels such as Do–Mi–Sol to the same chord buttons, introducing the names of the notes within each chord.
03–04: White-key notes across two, then three octaves
Stage 3 uses white-key single notes across two octaves; stage 4 expands to three. The pools contain 14 white-key pitches from C4 to B5, or 21 from C3 to B5.
Answer buttons use the same name for different octaves. The task does not ask you to distinguish high Do from low Do. White-key single-note practice requires the full version. Checks remain free.

ButterflyListen as a chordStage 5 adds five chords containing black keys, one at a time: Sprout, Shell, Butterfly, Elephant and Fish. Practice focuses on these while they are being added, then includes the nine white-key chords once all five are available.
Stage 6 adds note names to all fourteen chord buttons. Fourteen is the number included in the app, not every chord that exists in music.
07–08: Black-key notes and a wider range
Stage 7 practises black-key single notes across two octaves. Stage 8 expands black-key notes to three octaves and mixes them with white-key notes. Full-version checks also cover black-key-only pools across two or three octaves and a mixed pool.
A parent makes every stage change. Time and accuracy never automatically add sounds or move the learner forward.

WhaleListen as a chordAfter the first Apple stage, use both two weeks since the last addition or stage change and at least 90% accuracy on the most recent twenty first answers as reference points.
These references are not an exam or a lock on parental controls. A parent decides based on the child. Newly added chords start infrequently and rise to a similar frequency as familiar chords over forty questions.
